The Port of Houston: Past, Present and Future

Mark Lardas, a one-time engineer, freelance writer, amateur historian and model-maker, lives in League City, Texas.  He is currently employed as a technical writer.  When he says something isn’t rocket science, he should know – he has been one.  Although he graduated from the University of Michigan with a BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, he spent most of the the next 30 years as a space navigator and a software engineer on the Shuttle program.  His down-to-earth interests include model-making and writing, interests which he combines in numerous articles to modeling magazines, and as a stints as the Hobby Master for Boy’s Life and the Model Master for English Street, an English language publication in Hong Kong.  He is also the author of sixteen published books, all focusing on history, with eight related to maritime and naval history. He is the author of the book Port of Houston.

Followed by a brief presentation by
Leslie Bowlin, Director of the Houston Maritime Museum

Leslie Bowlin is currently serving as director of the Houston Maritime Museum. She joined the museum 2 years ago through her company, PR Squared, who was contracted to manage the fundraising and marketing for the new museum to be built in the near future in Houston.

Her first maritime adventure was when she traveled from the port of Le Havre, France to the United States as a nine year old. Her interest in maritime has continued since that time with sailing as a hobby and her taking the helm at the museum for their next big voyage.
